Nel frattempo, nella vita di Dorothea Tanning

Tutta la vita
  1. 1950s–1970s

    Becomes an active printmaker

While living in France she works in the ateliers of Georges Visat and Pierre Chave and makes work for limited-edition artists’ books by such poets as Alain Bosquet, René Crevel, Lena Leclerq and André Pieyre de Mandiargues.

  2. c. 1955

Her canvases “splinter”: a break with Surrealism

Working in Paris and Huismes, in the mid-1950s she moves away from Surrealism: her images grow fragmented and prismatic. In her words, around 1955 her canvases literally splintered, as if she had broken the mirror.

  3. 1955

A house of their own in Touraine

From 1955 the couple live in a house of their own in Touraine.

  4. 1957

    Appears in Richter’s “8 x 8”

    She performs in Hans Richter’s avant-garde film 8 x 8: A Chess Sonata in 8 Movements.
