Her pictures in other people's films
In “Working Girls” (1986) the photographs attributed to the heroine Molly are Goldin's; in Mary Harron's “I Shot Andy Warhol” (1996) she is credited with “special photography”. The photographs of the heroine of Lisa Cholodenko's “High Art” (1998) are based on her work.

Retrospective “I'll Be Your Mirror” at the Whitney
The Whitney Museum of American Art stages her retrospective “I'll Be Your Mirror”; the show then travels to Wolfsburg, Amsterdam (Stedelijk Museum), Winterthur, Vienna (Kunsthalle Wien) and Prague (National Museum).

A hand injury
She injures her hand and since then has had less ability to handle a camera.
2001
Exhibition at the Centre Pompidou: “Le Feu Follet”
Her exhibition “Le Feu Follet / The Devil's Playground” opens at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and then travels to the Whitechapel Gallery in London, the Reina Sofía in Madrid, Serralves in Porto, Rivoli Castle in Turin and Ujazdów Castle in Warsaw.

On “heroin chic”
In an interview with The Observer she calls the use of “heroin chic” to sell clothes and perfume reprehensible and evil; critics had accused her of making heroin look glamorous. She herself admits that in her youth she had a romantic notion of being a junkie, but soon saw the error of that ideal.
