In een herberg wordt een boerenbruiloft gevierd. Aan een tafel zit rechts de bruid omringd door mannen, aan de muur achter haar hangt een wandtapijt. De bruidegom zit links van haar en drinkt zijn glas leeg. Op de voorgrond danst een oude man op de muziek van muzikanten met viool en cello. Links kijken een staande man en vrouw toe. Op de vloer liggen eierschalen, botten, een bord en een lepel.

From 1660 to 1670 Steen lived in Haarlem, and this was the most productive period of his life.

By 1669 Steen's finances had improved, but in the spring his wife died, later that year his mother, and a year later his father.

After his father's death Steen returned to Leiden and lived for the rest of his life in the house he inherited from his parents.
