Sull’opera

John Houck’s half portrait of an unidentified subject twists with mischievous trickery. Multiple hands pull at the strings of black oxfords while the jeans-clad figure balances upon a curved, white backdrop. Houck’s patches of lavender and bright orange paint further distort our perception of space and bodily presence.

I'm a mother and a waitress. I enjoy what I'm doing but wouldn't want to do it for a lifetime. I'm divorced and find it difficult to meet men who want to have a relationship. Someday I'd like to go back to school., Bill Owens, 1976 (printed later)
