    Serves as professor of “monumental painting” at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et d'Architecture de La Cambre in Brussels.

    The 27th Venice Biennale and censorship

    Takes part in the 27th Venice Biennale, whose theme was “Fantasy in Art”, showing religious scenes enacted by skeletons (in the 1950s he painted a series of crucifixions and depositions). The show is censored for heresy by Cardinal Roncalli, the future Pope John XXIII.

  4. 1956

    A trip to Greece and Italy

    Visits Greece, where classical architecture originated and the land of Homer and the Odyssey, and also Italy, reinforcing his favored themes of classical settings and costumes.
