He married the nurse Lucy Ray; they had no children. Lucy died in 1924.

War Posters of the First World War
He created more than 80 posters on war themes, donating most to charitable organizations. His grim poster of a bayonet attack caused outrage in Britain and Germany; it was said that the Kaiser had put a price on the artist's head.
