Con le parole del museo — in olandese

Het doorstoken lichaam van Dido liggend op een houtstapel voor een Amsterdamse grachtenhuis. Iris, een gevleugelde vrouwenfiguur, knipt een lok van haar haar af waarmee haar ziel bevrijd wordt. Op de brandstapel een portret van 'Wigmana'. Links pist een Cupido het vuur in een testje uit. Op de voorgrond rechts wordt een flauwgevallen vrouw bijgebracht. Mogelijk houdt de voorstelling verband met het toneelstuk 'Didoos Doot' van Andries Pels (1668).
