Nel frattempo, nella vita di Nan Goldin
Tutta la vita1986–1998
Her pictures in other people's films
In “Working Girls” (1986) the photographs attributed to the heroine Molly are Goldin's; in Mary Harron's “I Shot Andy Warhol” (1996) she is credited with “special photography”. The photographs of the heroine of Lisa Cholodenko's “High Art” (1998) are based on her work.
16 November 1989 – 6 January 1990
Curates “Witnesses: Against Our Vanishing”
At Artists Space she invites New York artists to respond to the HIV/AIDS crisis; demonstrators protest against censorship outside on opening night. David Wojnarowicz's essay in the catalog draws criticism, and the National Endowment for the Arts withdraws its support for the publication.
1990
Exhibition and book on Cookie Mueller
She exhibits a series of Cibachrome prints of Mueller, and Pace/MacGill publishes the series as a book the same year. Other accounts give 1991 for the show at the Pace/MacGill Gallery in New York.
1991
Tiffany Foundation award and DAAD residency in Berlin
She receives a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award and takes part in the DAAD Artists-in-Residence program in Berlin; the book “The Other Side” (Die andere Seite, 1993) is tied to that program.
29 March – 19 April 1991
Curates “From Desire: A Queer Diary”
At the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, Goldin's second curated show presents David Armstrong, Robert Mapplethorpe, David Wojnarowicz, Zoe Leonard and others.
1994
“Tokyo Love” with Nobuyoshi Araki
A joint book with the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki is published in Tokyo; the English edition follows in 1995.
