He accompanies the king to Flanders
In 1677 he accompanies Louis XIV to Flanders, which interrupts work on the Gallery of Apollo in the Louvre; on his return from Lille he paints several compositions in the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
1680s
The court intrigues of Louvois
After Colbert's fall the Marquis de Louvois tries, against the king's will, to remove Le Brun from work at court; the Academy, loyal to him, re-elects him for a new term, but court intrigues undermine the health of the ageing artist.
1683
He becomes director of the Academy
In 1683 he becomes director of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.
