About the sculpture

The putto derives from a classical type of a child with dog, sometimes in the action of holding a puppy away from a bitch. The unusual stylised hair in low relief suggests a special attempt to classicize.

It is made in North Italy (probably Lombard), in the middle of the 16th century.
