Flight from Fascism to Paris
Miró moved to Paris to escape Fascism and lived in a small cheap hotel; there he painted “Still Life with Old Shoe” and drew the poster “Aidez l'Espagne!”, calling on the world to fight Fascism.
1939
Moves to Varengeville
With Germany's invasion of France looming, Miró moved to Varengeville in Normandy.

The first monograph on Miró
Shuzo Takiguchi published the first monograph on Miró.
1940
A narrow escape to Spain
As the Germans invaded France Miró narrowly fled to Spain, by then controlled by Franco, and stayed there for the whole of the Vichy regime.
