A szoborról
Daniel Mauch carved Eve around 1535; the small statuette is in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland. It belongs to a group whose figures were each cut from one block of boxwood. Their bodies reflect close attention to anatomy and familiarity with Albrecht Dürer's print of the subject. Although Mauch's career crossed medieval and Renaissance traditions, these carvings follow newer developments in southern German Renaissance art. Their forms also have close connections with contemporary bronze sculpture in Italy and Germany. On view in room 114.
A múzeum szavaival
Mauch straddled the late medieval and Renaissance traditions across his career. These small-scale statuettes, however, each made from a single piece of boxwood, stem from the most progressive strands of Renaissance art in southern Germany, closely connected to developments in both Italian and German bronze sculpture. The bodies reveal Mauch's careful study of human anatomy as well as a rapport with Albrecht Dürer's well-known print of the same subject.
