Le Matin dans un port de mer est un tableau de Claude Gellée, dit Le Lorrain conservé au musée de l'Ermitage de Saint-Pétersbourg. Jusqu'en 1958, ce tableau s'intitulait Le Soir.

Работа принадлежит к целому ряду произведений художника на тему "гавани". В альбоме Лоррена "Liber Veritatis", состоящем из зарисовок уже написанных полотен и служившем сводом образцов для заказчиков, этому варианту соответствует рисунок, который был выполнен, вероятно, в 1634 году. Он и послужил основанием для предполагаемой датировки картины. "Морские гавани", относящиеся к середине 1630-х годов, обычно невелики по размерам, на первом плане пейзажей представлены жанровые сценки, а на втором изображены архитектурные сооружения и корабли. В данной композиции справа высится античная арка Тита, рядом с ней большая круглая башня, вдали у входа в гавань видны в легкой дымке две другие башни. Игра света на резных украшениях арки создает известный романтический эффект.

    Growing fame: commissions from the French ambassador and Philip IV

    Claude’s growing reputation was shown by commissions from the French ambassador in Rome (1633) and from Philip IV of Spain (1634–35).

    Admitted to the Academy of Saint Luke

    In 1634 Claude was admitted to the Academy of Saint Luke.

  3. 1635

    Recognition: his pictures are in demand

    From 1635 Claude’s work was recognised and his paintings were in great demand; his patrons included Pope Urban VIII (four works), Cardinal Bentivoglio and Prince Colonna.

  4. 1635–1638

    Pope Urban VIII commissions four paintings

    According to Baldinucci, Cardinal Guido Bentivoglio, impressed by the two landscapes Claude painted for him, recommended the artist to Pope Urban VIII; four paintings were made for the Pope in 1635–38, two large and two small on copper.
