À propos du tableau

Titania et Bottom – ou en anglais Titania and Bottom – est un tableau de l'artiste britannique Johann Heinrich Füssli réalisé vers 1790. Cette huile sur toile représente des personnages du Songe d'une nuit d'été, la pièce de William Shakespeare: entourée par ses consœurs, la reine des fées Titania se tient debout, nue, à côté de son amour, Nick Bottom, dont un sort a changé la tête en celle d'un âne.

L'œuvre est conservée à la Tate Britain, à Londres.

    Marries Sophia Rawlins

    In 1788 Fuseli married Sophia Rawlins, originally one of his models. When Mary Wollstonecraft, whose portrait he had painted, pursued him determinedly and planned a trip with him to Paris, Sophia put an end to their communication.

    Elected a full Academician

    Soon after his marriage in 1788 Fuseli became an associate of the Royal Academy, and in 1790 a full Academician, presenting “Thor Battering the Midgard Serpent” as his diploma work.
