À propos de la sculpture

Throughout her career, Wendy Red Star has investigated how Indigenous people and cultures are erased from the historical record and overlooked in the present. In visual retort, Their Land makes Native and Indigenous tribal and ancestral homelands abundantly visible on a map of the United States. Based on 2022 data from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, the work represents a snapshot of federally and state-recognized tribes from that year. Their Land prompts conversations about the acknowledged presence or absence of Native American and Indigenous groups throughout the United States, the histories of their locations, and our assumptions surrounding these themes.
