From 1623 Rembrandt studied in Amsterdam with Pieter Lastman, who specialized in historical, mythological, and biblical subjects. Lastman's influence is evident in the artist's earliest surviving works.

Own Studio with Jan Lievens
Returning to Leiden in 1627, Rembrandt opened his own studio together with Jan Lievens and began taking on pupils. Within a few years he had gained wide renown.
