Pendant ce temps, chez Fra Angelico

La vie entière
  1. 17 October 1417 – February 1418

First records: Guido di Pietro, painter

The earliest record of him is dated 17 October 1417, when, under the name Guido di Pietro, he attended a religious confraternity at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Payments to Guido di Pietro in January and February 1418 for work at the church of Santo Stefano del Ponte in Florence show that he was already working as a painter.

  2. 1418

    Joins the Dominican Observants

In 1418 Guido di Pietro entered the Dominican convent at Fiesole and joined the Dominican Observants, who kept the original Rule of Saint Dominic with its demand for absolute poverty and asceticism; as a friar he became Giovanni da Fiesole. The exact date of his vows is unknown and is placed between 1418 and 1421, since novices were not allowed to paint during their first year.

  3. 1429

Registered at San Domenico as Brother Johannes

In 1429 the artist was registered at the monastery of San Domenico as “Brother Johannes Petri de Muscello” (frate Johannes Petri de Muscello).
