L'Étang à Montgeron est une huile sur toile (172 × 193 cm) de Claude Monet peinte en 1877. Elle est conservée au musée de l'Ermitage de Saint-Pétersbourg.

Картина относится к серии из четырех декоративных панно, исполненных по заказу финансиста Э.Ошеде, одного из первых меценатов импрессионистов. Вместе с тремя другими полотнами Моне ("Уголок сада в Монжероне", Эрмитаж; "Белые индейки", Лувр; "Охота", частное собрание, Париж) она предназначалась для украшения большого салона принадлежавшего Ошеде замка Роттенбург в Монжероне. Произведение создавалось в период расцвета импрессионизма. Сделав своей целью передачу мгновения в жизни природы, импрессионисты заполнили картины вибрирующим светом и воздухом. Символом динамики и изменчивости натуры стало для мастеров пленэра зыбкое, подвижное, мимолетное отражение в воде, превратившееся в главную тему этого пейзажа. Возможно, что дама с удочкой, силуэт которой едва намечен, - жена заказчика Алиса Ошеде, впоследствии - вторая жена Клода Моне.

    The "Gare Saint-Lazare" series at the third exhibition

    For the third Impressionist exhibition Monet selected seven of the dozen paintings of the Gare Saint-Lazare made over the previous three months — the first time he showed so many canvases of a single motif in such a coordinated way. Critics especially praised the rendering of the trains' movement.
