поясной; 1/2 влево, голова почти внфас; в чёрной треуголке с золотым галуном и белым плюмажем, надетой на пудренный парик с буклями и темным бантом в косе; в белом галстуке и жабо; в зеленом мундире с красным отложным воротником; в Андреевской ленте; правая рука отставлена в сторону; фон коричневый, внизу переходящий в облачный с заревом.

    Fame after the Academy Exhibition and the Title of Academician

    He exhibited six of his portraits at the Imperial Academy of Arts and attracted universal attention; for the portrait of the architect A. F. Kokorinov the 35-year-old Levitzky received the title of academician.

  3. 1771–1788

    Head of the Academy's Portrait Class

    From 1771 he taught at the Academy of Arts and headed its portrait class for seventeen years; he retired in 1788.

  4. 1773–1778

    Commissions from Empress Catherine II

    Levitzky's name appears repeatedly in the empress's personal accounts: 1,000 rubles for two portraits of her (1773), 800 rubles for a portrait of the Prussian king, and 1,000 rubles for a large portrait of Catherine II (1778) — enormous sums for the time.

    He was elected a member of the council of the Imperial Academy of Arts.

  6. late 1790s

    Failing Eyesight

    In the late 1790s Levitzky's eyesight began to fail, and he came to paint only rarely.
