Retrospective at MoMA in New York
The Museum of Modern Art in New York held the first of three American retrospectives of Magritte’s work — the only one in his lifetime.
1967
Pancreatic cancer and an unfinished “Empire of Light”
He died of pancreatic cancer on 15 August 1967, aged 68, leaving unfinished a new version of his painting “The Empire of Light”.
