Girodet draws illustrations for the Didot edition of Racine's works, published in 1801–1805.

Exhibits “Scene from the Deluge”
The painting, shown in competition with David's “Sabines”, was awarded the decennial prize (prix décennal); it is now in the Louvre. Other accounts date the work to 1810.
1807–1817
His powers begin to fail
In his forties Girodet's powers began to fail, and his habit of working at night and other excesses weakened his constitution.

Immense success of “The Entombment of Atala”
The painting, based on François-René de Chateaubriand's novel “Atala” (first published in 1801), won immense popularity thanks to its fortunate choice of subject and its remarkable departure from the theatricality of Girodet's usual manner.
