Christus valt, ondanks de hulp van Simon van Cyrene, tijdens het dragen van zijn kruis naar Golgota. Een Romeinse soldaat spoort hem aan om op te staan. Veronica biedt aan het zweet van zijn gezicht te wissen met een doek. Op de achtergrond bezwijkt zijn moeder Maria. De voorstelling is gevat in een ornamentele omlijsting met dieren, vogels en vruchten.
