Pendant ce temps, chez Peter Paul Rubens

La vie entière
  1. septembre 1609

Employed by: Albert VII, Archduke of Austria

  2. 3 octobre 1609

    Married: Isabella Brant

  3. 8 October 1609

    Marriage to Isabella Brant

The 32-year-old Rubens married the 18-year-old Isabella Brant, niece of his brother's wife and daughter of the humanist and city secretary Jan Brant; the marriage produced three children.

  4. 9 January 1610

Court Painter to the Archducal Couple

After being presented at court in August 1609, Rubens received his patent as court painter to Archduke Albert and the Infanta Isabella; at the same time he secured the right to remain working in Antwerp rather than Brussels, and to be paid a fee for each painting.

  5. January 1611

Purchase of Land and Construction of a House and Studio

Rubens acquired a large plot on the Wapper and built a mansion for 10,000 florins with a studio and a gallery for his collection; the fitting-out lasted until 1616, and contemporaries called the house the most beautiful in the city.

  6. 1621

Marie de' Medici's Commission for the Luxembourg Palace Cycles

The Queen Mother of France, Marie de' Medici, commissioned from Rubens two large allegorical cycles for the Luxembourg Palace — one on her own life and one on the life of the late Henry IV; the second series was never completed.
