La vie entière
  1. 1890–1891

    Sea Voyages: Spain, Istanbul, Zanzibar

He spent most of 1890 and 1891 at sea: he visited Spain several times, returned to Istanbul, and traveled to South Africa and Zanzibar. The light and colors of southern lands brightened his palette.

  2. 1891

    First Solo Exhibition in London

He held his first solo exhibition in London.

  3. 1895

Bing's Commission: The Facade of the Galerie L'Art Nouveau

The Paris art dealer Siegfried Bing commissioned Brangwyn to decorate the facade of his gallery L'Art Nouveau and pushed him into new fields: murals, tapestries, carpets, posters, and stained glass for Tiffany.

  4. 1895

    France Buys Market in Morocco

The French government purchased his painting Market in Morocco.

  5. 1896

    Marriage to Lucy Ray

He married the nurse Lucy Ray; they had no children. Lucy died in 1924.

  6. 1914–1918

War Posters of the First World War

He created more than 80 posters on war themes, donating most to charitable organizations. His grim poster of a bayonet attack caused outrage in Britain and Germany; it was said that the Kaiser had put a price on the artist's head.
