A year after his first wife’s death he marries Johanna Sibylla Heim.

Birth of his daughter Anna Maria Sibylla
His daughter Anna Maria Sibylla is born, later a pioneering naturalist and illustrator; she will take up the tradition of natural-history illustration to which Merian’s own engravings for John Jonston’s encyclopaedic work on natural history belong.

After several years of illness he dies in Langenschwalbach, near Wiesbaden, leaving his widow with two small children: his daughter Anna Maria Sibylla (born 1647) and a son, Maximilian, who died before his third birthday.
