A Mongol archer on horseback. The painting is painted in ink and colour on paper by an anoymous artist, who probably lived in early Ming dynasty (1368-1644). A special feature of this insignificant figure painting is that it bears numerous collecting seals. Some of these seals are not genuine, such as those of Emeperor Qianlong (r. 1735-1795), and they were added to raise the historical importance of the work, a common pratice among forgers.
