Leaves Milan for the Habsburg court
According to the biographer Paolo Morigia, Arcimboldo answered the call of Emperor Maximilian II and left Milan for 25 years; from 1562 he was on the books as court painter at 20 gulden a month. The archives point to Maximilian II rather than Ferdinand I, as is often claimed, though why the painter was summoned is not known.
