  1. 1965–1972

    The academies of fine arts in Belgrade and Zagreb

    From 1965 to 1970 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, and in 1972 she completed her postgraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, in the class of Krsto Hegedušić.

  2. 1970/71–1976

    Marriage to Neša Paripović

    From 1970 or 1971 until 1976 she was married to Neša Paripović.

  3. 1976

    She meets Ulay

    In Amsterdam she met the West German performance artist Uwe Laysiepen, known as Ulay; the same year they began living and performing together.

  4. 1976

    Moves to Amsterdam

    She went to Amsterdam to perform a piece and decided to move there permanently.

  5. 1988

    Farewell walk along the Great Wall of China

    To end their relationship with a spiritual journey (“Lovers”), they walked towards each other along the Great Wall — Ulay from the Gobi Desert, she from the Yellow Sea — and after 2,500 km each they met in the middle and said goodbye for ever; the walk took about three months, and permission from the Chinese government had taken eight years, by which time their relationship had completely dissolved.
