Sobre la obra
Anverso: Yunta de bueyes Yunta de bueyes de perfil a la izquierda, ligeramente de tres cuartos de forma que vemos la cabeza de ambos bueyes. En la zona del lomo del buey del fondo, se ha dibujado una cabeza de buey de frente. Reverso: Estudios de bueyes En la zona superior izquierda, yunta de bueyes de frente, muy esquemáticos y emborronados por trazos rápidos. A la derecha, también en la zona superior, estudio de buey de perfil a la izquierda. En la zona inferior, yunta de bueyes de perfil, casi de frente, viendo las cabezas de los dos animales.

Moves to Madrid: large canvases for the salons
The family moved to Madrid. For the next decade Sorolla concentrated on large canvases of orientalist, mythological, historical and social subjects for salons and international exhibitions in Madrid, Paris, Venice, Munich, Berlin and Chicago.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
