Sobre la obra
It is striking that the etched portrait of Bueno shows more of his surroundings than the painted preparatory study. Rembrandt went to great lengths to translate the oil sketch’s dark tonalities into the print. Yet he clearly distinguishes the figure from the background. The stairs in the left foreground serve as one of the bright spots in the composition.

Beginning of His Relationship with Hendrickje Stoffels
In early 1649 Rembrandt grew close to the 23-year-old Hendrickje Stoffels, who had previously served as his maid. Her image appears in many works of his late period.
