About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Bewoners van een zelfbouwwoning zijn in de Brentanostraat in Amsterdam aan het werk. De woningen staan in de Venserpolder, nabij station Bijlmer. Van dit complex eengezinswoningen werd alleen het casco met stenen muren en betonnen vloeren opgeleverd. De kopers voltooiden hun woning zelf. Dit was een proefproject van de gemeente Amsterdam om mensen met lagere inkomens een mogelijkheid te bieden een koopwoning aan te schaffen. De architect, Ronald Wilken, heeft het huis zo ontworpen dat bewoners het later konden verbouwen. Zo steekt aan de voor- en achterzijde de fundering ongeveer twee meter uit. Dat maakt het eenvoudiger om later bijvoorbeeld de keuken uit te breiden.
