About the sculpture

This bust of Voltaire is a reduced copy of one by Jean Baptiste Lemoyne (1704-1778). It is signed, and thought to have been made, by Jean-Jacques Caffieri and it is very possible that Caffieri issued such small reduced copies and signed them at the high point of Voltaire's posthumous fame, but it is also possible that this bust dates from the 19th century.
