About the sculpture

This statue represents the Virgin of the Immaculate Reception. It is made of painted and gilt poplar wood, in Central Europe in ca. 1770-1790.

It was formerly thought to be Spanish. The Virgin is represented as a child in child's costume of the 18th century.
