About the painting

In the museum's own words — in French

Scène représentant une femme debout, vêtue d'un manteau bleu et d'une robe rouge, les cheveux longs couverts d'un voile transparent. Les mains jointes en prière, elle baisse le regard. Sa tête est couronnée de huit étoiles. Ses pieds reposent sur un croissant de lune, lui-même posé sur un nuage d'où émergent trois têtes d'angelots ailés. Un halo lumineux jaune entoure sa silhouette. Au-dessus de sa tête, à sa droite, figure le soleil ; à sa gauche, la lune ; et au centre une étoile. Elle est entourée de quatorze anges, tenant chacun un attribut. On reconnaît, sur le registre de droite, de bas en haut : la maison d'or ou cité de Dieu (?), une palme, le puits d'eaux vives, l'olivier (?), la tour d'ivoire, le miroir sans tâche, le buisson de roses (?). Sur le registre de gauche, de bas en haut : la tour de David (inspirée du Tempiéto de San Pietro in Montorio à Rome), le palmier (?), la fontaine scellée (?), un arbre, un autre arbre, la porte céleste, le lys. Le tiers inférieur de la composition représente un paysage arboré aux multiples nuances de vert, sous un ciel azur.
