    An affair with the Duchess of Bedford

    Commissioned to paint a portrait of Georgiana Russell, Duchess of Bedford; although she is twenty years older than he is, they begin an affair. Contemporary gossip had it that Landseer was the father of at least one of her children, Lady Rachel Russell.

  2. 1824

    First trip to Scotland

    Visits Scotland for the first time together with Charles Robert Leslie, and the trip has a great effect on him; he will return many times to make studies, and the Highlands will provide the subjects, both human and animal, for many of his important paintings.

  3. 1826

    Associate of the Royal Academy

    Elected an Associate of the Royal Academy at the minimum age of 24.
