Maria, staand in de lucht boven een landschap op een omgekeerde halve maan die op de rug van een monsterlijke vogel rust, te midden van engelen die objecten dragen (o.a. zon, maan, waterput, plant, palmtak, boom). Onder de voorstelling een onderschrift in Latijn. Deze prent is onderdeel van een reeks prenten rond het leven van Maria, bestaande uit een titelprent en dertien verhalende voorstellingen.

In the year the large series of the “Miseries of War” is published, Lorraine is invaded by the French during the Thirty Years’ War; Callot’s etchings of pillaging, executions and the lot of crippled beggars are counted among the most powerful artistic statements of the inhumanity of war and will later inspire Goya.
