In the life of Aldo Rossi
The whole life1965–1985
In the “metaphysical” group La Tendenza
Seeing himself as a follower of the neoclassical school and of Giorgio de Chirico's “metaphysical painting”, Rossi belonged to the La Tendenza group in northern Italy; against utilitarianism and functionalism he set an architecture bound to a shared cultural foundation — a method sometimes called “metaphysical neoclassicism”.
1971–1975
Suspended from teaching, he takes a chair in Zurich
Suspended from teaching in Italy in those politically troubled times, Rossi moved to ETH Zurich, where he held the chair of architectural design.
1975
Returns to teaching in Venice
Rossi returned to teaching in Italy, taking architectural composition in Venice. The same year his second book appeared, “Selected Writings on Architecture and the City, 1956–1972”.
