Anniversary edition of “The Americans”
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the first publication of The Americans, a new edition from Steidl is released worldwide on 30 May 2008; most photographs are uncropped and two are replaced with images of the same subject from an alternate perspective.
2009
The exhibition “Looking In: Robert Frank’s The Americans”
A celebratory exhibition of The Americans, Looking In, is shown in 2009 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., SFMOMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art; its second section displays Frank’s original Guggenheim application, vintage contact sheets, letters to Walker Evans and Jack Kerouac and two early manuscript versions of Kerouac’s introduction.
