Meanwhile, in the life of Le Corbusier

The whole life
  1. 1936

Rio de Janeiro: the Ministry of Education building

On a lecture tour of South America, Le Corbusier worked on the design of the Ministry of Education in Rio de Janeiro (architects Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer). At his suggestion its office tower received full glazing and external sun-breakers, one of the first experiments of the kind.

  2. 1940

Occupation: the studio closes; retreat to Ozon

With the Nazi occupation Le Corbusier's studio closed, and he and his wife moved to a farm far from Paris, at Ozon in the Hautes-Pyrénées.

  3. c. 1940 – 1942

Vichy: trying to serve the new regime

After France's defeat Le Corbusier moved to Vichy and for about eighteen months actively tried to find a place in the puppet regime; in 1942 he travelled to Algiers to promote his plan for the city. Back in Paris with no commissions, he turned to theory, drawing and writing.
