The whole life1958
The first European happening, “The Theater Is in the Street”
In Paris he stages the happening “Das Theater ist auf der Straße” (“The Theater Is in the Street”), the first happening in Europe; it incorporates auto parts and a TV.
1958
Meets Mercedes Guardado Olivenza
In Guadalupe he meets the young teacher Mercedes Guardado Olivenza and falls in love with her; he would later describe her as his muse, model, closest collaborator and museum founder, his “inseparable collaborator”.
1959
Founds the Vostell Archive
He collects photographs, texts and personal correspondence with colleagues such as Nam June Paik, Joseph Beuys and Dick Higgins, along with press cuttings, invitations and catalogues; later his private library of some six thousand books joins it. The archive is now housed in the Museo Vostell Malpartida; other accounts date its founding to the 1960s.

Marries Mercedes in Cáceres and moves to Cologne
The couple marry in Cáceres and then leave for Cologne; they have two sons, David and Rafael.

“Cityrama” — the first happening in Germany
