    Portrait postcards for Karl Priebe

    From 1946 to 1956 Van Vechten sent the Wisconsin artist Karl Priebe hundreds of postcards bearing his portrait photographs.

  2. 1949

    Gives photographs to the Philadelphia Museum of Art

    Van Vechten gave sixty of his photographs to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, beginning what became one of the largest collections of his work in the United States.

  3. 1950s

    Against McCarthyism

    In the 1950s, despite his age, Van Vechten spoke out against Senator McCarthy's anti-communist tirades, while remaining true to his own views.
