Galatea zit samen met een zee-centaur in haar door dolfijnen getrokken vaartuig. Zeewezens zwemmen om het paar heen, terwijl putti hun pijlen op haar richten. Links is Europa op de stier afgebeeld, rechtsboven Neptunus .

Giustiniani's Patronage and Poussin's Attention
In Rome the banker and collector Vincenzo Giustiniani commissioned two large religious compositions from him (now in the Abbey of Sainte-Trinité in Caen). Schut attracted the attention of the young Poussin, whose early works borrowed motifs from these pieces.

Imprisoned on Suspicion of a Colleague's Murder
He was held in a Roman prison on suspicion of murdering a fellow painter named Giusto; he was released on 2 October thanks to the intervention of the Accademia di San Luca. He then left Rome for Florence.
