About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Op een wagen getrokken door twee olifanten staat de gevleugelde Faam, zij blaast op twee trompetten. Op de voorgrond loopt een stoet van staatslieden en de dichter Dante die door Faam zijn uitverkoren. Links staan de grote kop en voet van het beeld van Constantijn de Grote. Op de achtergrond is architectuur van zowel Rome als Tivoli herkenbaar. Latijns opschrift in twee regels FAMA PEREMVS ERIT ... EDAX ABOLERE VETVSTAS
