About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Waarheid vertrapt de personificatie van het Bedrog (half mens, half skelet). In haar hand houdt ze een brandende olielamp, op haar schoot een opengeslagen bijbel. Ze is geflankeerd door de vrouwelijke personificatie van Opstand (Rebellio), met slangen in haar handen, en de mannelijke personificatie van Katholieke Gehoorzaamheid (Catholica Obedientia). Boven hen de duif van de Heilige Geest. Twee engelen houden een banderol vast met een opschrift in het Latijn, ze brengen Waarheid een lauwerkrans en een palmtak. In de hemel het tetragram als symbool van God de Vader, omgeven door cherubijnen. In de marge een achtregelig onderschrift, in twee kolommen, in het Latijn.
