In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Maria, huilend en met gevouwen handen, zit tegen de onderkant van het kruis van Christus. Bij haar voeten liggen passiewerktuigen: een nijptang, spijkers en de doornenkroon. Op de achtergrond een stadmuur. Onder de voorstelling een Latijns vers van twee keer twee regels.
