About the sculpture

This wax relief depicts the Virgin Mary seated in a landscape, supporting the naked Christ Child on her left knee. In her right hand she holds his chemise and a binder and she wears an ample mantle over a robe with a jewelled belt and trimming round the low neck with a string of pearls round her neck and in her hair. At her feet there is a dormouse. In the upper right hand corner is a Cupid holding bunches of grapes. The trees on either side have twigs of wood. A bird is shown in the tree to the right.
