The whole life
  1. 1905

    Separation from his wife, meeting Julia Berg

    In 1905, after meeting Julia Berg, he separates from his wife; he marries Berg in 1908, and the couple have three sons. Two of them become noted artists: Andreas as a photographer, T. Lux as a photographer and painter.

  2. 1906

    Paris: the decision to devote himself to painting

    In 1906 he goes to Paris again to continue his art education, and there he finally decides to devote himself to painting.

  3. February 1906

    Comic strips for the Chicago Tribune

    James Keeley, editor of the Chicago Tribune, comes to Germany for the most popular humor artists and recruits Feininger to illustrate the comic strips “The Kin-der-Kids” and “Wee Willie Winkie's World.” They are noted for their fey humor and graphic experimentation.

    Years in Berlin, the “marine” pictures

    From 1908 to 1919 he lives in Berlin and paints a series of “marine” pictures in the spirit of Caspar David Friedrich.
