About the sculpture

Denna skulptur, som ägts av drottning Kristina, föreställer Jesus följeslagare Maria Magdalena. Hon brukar ofta avbildas på detta sätt, med långt hår och en dödskalle för att påminna om livets ändlighet och förgänglighet. På många sätt anknyter skulpturen till klassiska ideal, till exempel ansiktets rena drag och kroppens vilande pose. Men hårets virvlande lockar och draperingens djupa veck är typiska för barocken och ger skulpturen ett dramatiskt uttryck.
