  2. 1949

An audience with Pope Pius XII

Dalí showed Pope Pius XII a study for “The Madonna of Port Lligat” at an audience arranged to discuss his marriage to Gala. The work heralded the phase he called “Nuclear Mysticism”, a fusion of Einsteinian physics, classicism and Catholic mysticism.

  3. December 1949

His sister's book and a break with his family

His sister Anna Maria published her book “Salvador Dalí Seen by His Sister”; angered by passages he considered derogatory to Gala, Dalí broke off relations with his family.

  4. September 1950

    His father's death and near-disinheritance

When his father died, Dalí learned that he had been virtually disinherited in his will. A two-year legal dispute followed over paintings and drawings left in the family home, during which Dalí was accused of assaulting a notary.
