Apprenticed in Rembrandt's workshop
After December 1635, when Bol is still recorded in Dordrecht as a painter, he works as an apprentice in Rembrandt's Amsterdam workshop (other accounts say already after 1630) and lives in his house. He followed his master so closely that many of his paintings were long attributed to Rembrandt himself, and Rembrandt even sold his pupil's work.

Opens his own studio
After his father's death, Bol opens his own studio and establishes himself as an independent artist.

Commissions for the town hall and the Admiralty
Bol receives orders for two chimney pieces for rooms in the new town hall, designed by Jacob van Campen (now the Royal Palace on Dam Square), and four more for the Admiralty of Amsterdam.
after 1669
Gives up painting
From his second marriage on, no paintings by Bol are known, and he apparently withdrew from painting; the popularity he had enjoyed in the 1660s faded after 1669.
